Teresita Pines

I had the pleasure of putting the finishing touches on this watercolor painting this weekend.

The Chapel at Teresita Pines in Wrightwood, California,  has always been a source of inspiration for me.  For quiet moments & simple sunrises.  I have enjoyed many moments here and thankfully will have many more moments to share with my own children in the future.

I enjoyed arts & crafts here, and began my love for teaching art to children here.  Now I see a future teaching and guiding students through art lessons here through some new programs that are being developed, for private and organized groups.  I am very excited.

Watch for more "Paint-Outs" and "Field Trips" in the near future.

Dear Friends and Artists…

Summer is just about over and the back-to-school shopping is done.  New “to do” calendars and events are being organized, penciled in, and budgeted… with that information pending I am thinking about that a wonderful, and busy season is ahead.

We are ready for a routine… and ready to enjoy the warm evenings that September and October will bring, along with beautiful sunsets and cool breezes that will follow.  In the next few weeks I will be adding some blocked time for regularly scheduled art classes for all age groups.  Toddlers – Early Learning, Pre-school – Pre-Kindergarten, Early Elementary, Middle Grade, Young Adult, and Adult art classes.  Whether for an individual looking to expand on current art knowledge and technique, or a small child learning how to hold crayons and paint brushes, a customized art plan is available for you. Morning and early afternoon classes can be arranged when children are at school.  Take a look at the many options that I offer, and let’s Paint, Play and get Creative!!!

Milk and Cookies

Milk and Cookies

I gave my students the word "Scruptious" as an example of how to get inspiration for painting.  One of the little girls went with it... painting this image of a glass of milk and yellow and red plate with a chocolate chip cookie and  a donut with sprinkles.   "Scrumptious"...

If you were given the word scruptious... what would you draw or paint?

Taking Art Outdoors...

An hour is all I need to take my young artist (Fiona), to a nearby park and enjoy some watercolors.  We sat on a park bench and paint the sprinkling water fountain.  For a good 15 minutes she enjoyed the process of composing her picture, selecting her paints, mixing in a little water, and of course, sitting under the pink portable sunbrella....

Plein Air - Introducing Outdoor Oil Painting to my Young Students...

Saturday, May 19, 2012

Earlier this week I was presented with a box... a recycled cereal box, which had been hand wrapped and taped (as if tape was going out of style) with layers of hand colored construction paper. Hearts and hugs and kisses xoxoxo all over...

I asked if I could shake the box, and FIONA'S EYES GOT SCARY BIG... so I knew that was not an option... the fear of whatever inside being damaged was too much.

"Be Very Careful"... "I made it myself", she said.

It was (shown above) the most impressive sculpture of a "Mermaid holding a Unicorn"... complete with curly tail and a flowing mane...

4 Leaf Clover, by Fiona, Age 6

I challenged to kids to help me with my sculptured paper project... and Fiona created this 4 leaf clover using the sculptured paper process.  Once I showed her how to do one leaf (create a heart in light green and then outline it with dark green paper) then she did the others herself.  She also added the stem, chose the background colors, and completed the project with little guidance.  Project time was 1 hour from start to finish.
