"The Painted Horse", by Suzanne Gibson

Coming up with new art lessons that touch upon known artists, recognizable images, and interesting approaches is always a challenge.  To a classroom of 2nd graders the idea of drawing and painting is exciting.  Telling them that they will not be using pencils, erasers, or scratch paper is also a daunting idea.... but it really works.

First,  you get them over the fact that they are AMAZING ARTISTS IN TRAINING... THEY HAVE SKILLS AND EVERY BRUSH STROKE IS SPECIAL.

There are no mistakes... only opportunities to get creative and try something new.

This is ACRYLIC PAINT... we used very little water and the classroom teacher stated she was nervous about the kids using acrylic.  My mission is to help teachers and parents understand how to use the paint, the combination of paint and water, and learn how they work together.

If you would like to learn this project, or would like this brought into your child's school or classroom, boy scout or girl scout troop... this along with very many projects qualifies for the primary color, color wheel and painting experience portions of the curriculum.

If your school is adapting to common core, my lessons can be aligned with your current subject matter.  Educational materials, pre-lesson instruction, follow-up lessons, and a variety of lessons plans can be developed to enhance the art learning process too!
